Darah Lundberg uses a dual approach to firing: her pieces are either electric-fired, gas or wood (atmospheric)–fired, and her glazing reflects those two paths. For her electric-fired work, she applies a durable white liner glaze on the inside, then a matte white glaze on the exterior, which is thin enough to allow the green of inlaid copper carbonate (or iron oxide) to show through subtly. In contrast, her wood-fired work often leaves the exterior unglazed, so that the ash and soda in the kiln atmosphere create natural, unpredictable surface effects.
