There are many forms of printmaking, but relief printing is the primary process used by Kelsi Cross. Her work begins with a hand-carved block—typically linoleum or wood—where selected areas are carefully carved away, leaving raised surfaces that hold the ink.

Once inked, paper is placed on top of the block and either hand-pressed or run through a printing press, transferring the image in reverse onto the paper. This hands-on process creates subtle variations from print to print, making each piece feel personal and uniquely its own.

Relief printmaking is an ancient technique, originally developed to reproduce text and imagery, and later embraced as a fine art form. Kelsi continues this time-honored tradition with a modern, approachable sensibility.

An extensive selection of prints created by Kelsi Cross is available at Makin’ it Local in Sisters, Oregon.
