Kathy shared the following about this deeply meaningful piece:

"Coming Home" is the celebration of salmon returning to the Klamath Basin after the removal of the dams. A few years ago I spent time in the area, even witnessing the removal of the JC Boyle Dam. The hope has always been that native salmon runs would be restored after the obstructions to flow were removed. The fish have indeed begun to return, but it hasn’t been easy.

This painting has also been difficult. I tried many times to paint it in a similar size to the piece entitled Opening the Klamath, but it would never come together. So, just like the struggle the fish face, this painting reflects the barriers that still remain—but some fish are making it home.

More than a landscape, Coming Home tells a story of perseverance, restoration, and hope. It celebrates one of Oregon's most significant conservation milestones while honoring the resilience of the salmon that are once again finding their way home.
