Drawn in the style of a wood engraving but printed from magnesium plates in three overlapping colours on a vintage printing press.

Susan Porteous is the creative spark behind Green Bird Press, a small letterpress printing and bindery located in Central Oregon.  They take a modern, minimalist approach to design, and our letterpress products, from prints to greeting cards, are hand-printed in small batches on our two vintage presses, a Vandercook SP-15 and a Kelsey Excelsior X.

Letterpress is a relief printing technique where the raised surface from a printing plate or handset type is inked and pressed into paper. The pressure from the press, combined with a thick paper stock, creates a deep impression in the paper, giving each piece a tactile quality that is unique to letterpress.
