At Makin’ it Local, we’re always excited to share new work from the artists who shape our community—and Bend ceramic artist Kara Frampton of KF Stoneware has just released a beautiful new collection that feels both fresh and deeply rooted in her creative journey.
Pottery has been part of Kara’s life since her preteen years. Her work reflects a lifelong connection to the natural world, drawing inspiration from time spent outdoors and the organic patterns found in both Central Oregon and her homeland of Hawaii. At the heart of it all is a simple intention: to create pottery that brings meaning and beauty into everyday spaces.
The Scalloped Collection
Kara’s newest body of work, the Scalloped Collection, introduces a rich, rhythmic design that feels both grounded and expressive.
Each piece is wheel-thrown and hand-carved, with no molds or shortcuts—just a thoughtful, hands-on process that allows the clay to take shape through time, attention, and skill. The scalloped pattern flows across the surface in layered, repeating forms, creating depth, movement, and a tactile quality that invites a closer look (and touch).
The collection is available in three forms:
- Bottleneck
- Round
- Scalloped
And in a warm, earthy palette of:
- Coral / Red
- Ochre
- Cream
- Blue
The result is a collection that feels substantial yet refined—pieces that quietly hold their own whether styled on a shelf, filled with florals, or simply enjoyed as objects of everyday art.
A Continuing Creative Journey
Kara’s work has always been guided by a deep appreciation for pattern, nature, and the relationship between form and surface. The Scalloped Collection is a natural extension of that exploration—an evolution that builds on her established voice while introducing something new.
Across her body of work, each piece remains rooted in the same philosophy: thoughtfully made, intentionally designed, and meant to be lived with.
