Art Gallery Retail Sales Associate

Job Description:

The duties of a Retail Sales Associate are to provide excellent customer service and obtain five-star customer satisfaction while consistently meeting the store’s sales goals.

The part-time on-site Art Gallery Sales Associate at Makin’ It Local is in downtown Sisters, Oregon. The Retail Sales Associate will engage with clients, drive sales and revenue, and assist visitors as they explore our artists' offerings. Special events, as well as weekend and holiday shifts, are available. In addition to sales, the position will include inventory control, shipping and receiving, merchandising, and light office and janitorial duties. 

Job Type: Part-Time

Number of positions available: Two

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour DOE

On-time Attendance and Summer Retention Bonus program.
Be on time and work the summer and you earn a bonus

Expected hours: 8 to 16

Shift: one 8-hour shift per week and a combination of one to two 4-hour shifts per week

Weekly day range: Monday - Sunday. Rotating Sunday Shift required.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and engage with visitors, providing a welcoming and informative experience.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the gallery artists' background and techniques/style and effectively communicate and educate our clients and visitors.
  • Assist in the organization and setup of gallery exhibitions and events.
  • Use of Point of Sale system to conduct sales transactions and maintain accurate records.
  • Offer guidance and information regarding artists, their work, and the gallery's services.
  • Handle artwork carefully and ensure the displayed pieces' safety and integrity.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain the gallery's appearance and operational standards.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to deepen knowledge of art and sales techniques.
  • When asked, support managing the gallery's online presence and social media.

Requirements:

  • A passion for art and a desire to learn about the gallery’s artists and share that knowledge with customers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively
  • Consistently lift to 35 lbs for merchandising and accessing artwork while assisting clients.
  • Stand for long periods.
  • Understand and implement safe working practices at all times.
  • Basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices.
  • Basic understanding and use of computers and point-of-sale systems.
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School diploma or GED

Preferred:

  • Advanced understanding of sales principles and customer service practices.
  • Proven sales background
  • Strong knowledge of art processes, styles, materials, and techniques.
  • Proficiency in using computers and point-of-sale systems.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and social media.
  • Further education in art, art history, or related fields is a plus.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends and some holidays.
  • College course work in Business or Marketing.
